I should add that my sister Rya was a rescue dog. She lived with about 30 other dogs in an outdoor pen. Because she's at least part corgi, she herded the bigger dogs around the pen. She was very shy about humans, though, because she'd not have much contact with them. My moms spent lots of time with her - earning her trust; that made a big difference. She still gets scared of loud noises, or long sticks (e.g., brooms, rakes, even fly swatters!). She's a really good sister; she give me baths and kisses (sometimes too many!).
